If you have melted plastic on the exhaust,it can be removed quite easily with a chemical called " Sodium Phosphate Tribasic Dodecahydrate " (Na3PO4.12H2O). I have used it to remove melted boots and plastic rainsuits from my exhaust. It comes in a white crystal form. I mix a few grams in about four ounces of water and apply it to the melted plastic liberally with a cotton cloth. The exhaust needs to be at operating temperature. The plastic will dissolve and leave a white film that can be wiped off easily when the exhaust has cooled. It will not damage chrome or stainless steel. I had seen some technicians use this to clean melted plastic from the insides of hospital sterilizers and asked them to give me a sample. I assume it can be purchased through a scientific supply company. Maybe a chemist on this forum could advise...
